ANNOUNCER: Now entering Brains On headquarters.

[BEEPS, HISS]

- Hey, Smarty Pals, so glad you could stop by on another beautiful day at Brains On headquarters. It's actually pretty quiet around here today.

[FOOTSTEPS]

RUBY GUTHRIE: Molly, Molly! Oh, my gosh!

MOLLY BLOOM: I may have spoken too soon. Ruby, what's going on?

RUBY GUTHRIE: Everyone in the Labra Kitchen has been pooped under a spell!

MOLLY BLOOM: Say what now?

RUBY GUTHRIE: We've been pooped under a spell.

MOLLY BLOOM: Um, I--

RUBY GUTHRIE: [SIGH, SCRITCH-SCRATCH]

MOLLY BLOOM: Oh, you're writing on the whiteboard. OK, let me read it. "A whole bunch of us were hanging in the Labra Kitchen waiting for our 27-layer lasagna to cook. Oh, yeah, that lasagna takes forever to bake.

RUBY GUTHRIE: And then a puff of glitter, an impish laugh, and--

[SCRITCH-SCRATCH]

[GASP]

MOLLY BLOOM: You were put under a spell? What kind of spell?

[SCRITCH-SCRATCH]

"All of our verbs have been replaced with the word poop." Oh, wow!

RUBY GUTHRIE: Yes, every action word poop, poop now. But you can poop the spell.

MOLLY BLOOM: Break the spell?

RUBY GUTHRIE: Yes.

[SCRITCH-SCRATCH]

MOLLY BLOOM: "I have to guess the verbs you're trying to say. And if I get them all right, the spell will be broken."

RUBY GUTHRIE: Yes. Guys, poop in here. Molly's going to poop the spell.

[DOOR CLACKS]

ROSE DUPONT: Oh, poop goodness.

ANNA WEGGEL: Ugh, I pooped we would poop under the spell forever.

MOLLY BLOOM: Rosie, Anna, I'm here to help.

RUBY GUTHRIE: One sentence from an episode of Brains On each.

MOLLY BLOOM: And I'll figure out the real verb. You're trying to say.

RUBY GUTHRIE: Bingo!

ANNA WEGGEL: Me first please.

MOLLY BLOOM: OK, I'm ready.

ANNA WEGGEL: You probably poop cables all the time, power cables pooped up along big metal towers.

MOLLY BLOOM: Oh, OK. Oh, I know this is from our episode about how the internet works. The information goes through cables. So I think it's probably, you probably see cables all the time, power cables strung along big metal towers.

[TINKLING]

ANNA WEGGEL: Yes that's it. You did it. I'm free!

RUBY GUTHRIE: Ooh, ooh Ruby next! Ruby next!

MOLLY BLOOM: Ready.

RUBY GUTHRIE: They can poop up to a month without oxygen and poop temperatures as cold as 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

MOLLY BLOOM: Oh, I know this one for sure. This is about those super cool Antarctic midges from our Antarctica episode. Those are those cute little bugs. They can live on Antarctica. It's so cool. Can you state it one more time, please?

RUBY GUTHRIE: Uh-huh. They can poop up to a month without oxygen and poop temperatures as cold as 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

MOLLY BLOOM: They can live up to a month without oxygen and survive temperatures as cold as 5 degrees.

[TINKLING]

RUBY GUTHRIE: The spell has been broken.

[SIGH]

Thank goodness. It's Rosie's turn.

ROSE DUPONT: Well, I--

MOLLY BLOOM: What's wrong?

ROSE DUPONT: I poop my verbs like this.

[GASP]

RUBY GUTHRIE: You like your verbs like this?

ROSE DUPONT: Yeah, it poops [LAUGH] so funny.

[LAUGHTER]

MOLLY BLOOM: OK, Rosie, I love poop jokes more than almost anyone. But trust me, this will get old fast. Isn't it better to be able to choose when you use the word poop?

[SIGH]

ROSE DUPONT: You poop right.

ANNA WEGGEL: Give us your sentence, Rosie.

ROSE DUPONT: OK. We poop when we poop tickled.

MOLLY BLOOM: Oh, this is one of my favorite episodes. This is the one about laughing. And the sentence is, we laugh when we get tickled.

[TINKLING, GASP]

ROSE DUPONT: Oh, the spell has been broken. I can say poop when I choose.

MOLLY BLOOM: Do we know who put the spell on you guys?

RUBY GUTHRIE: No, it all happened so fast.

ANNA WEGGEL: Yeah, we should find out.

MOLLY BLOOM: That's probably a mystery for another episode because [DING] the lasagna is finally done.

ROSE DUPONT: Let's eat and use the word poop sparingly and not constantly.

MOLLY BLOOM: That's it for this Smarty Pass episode. It was edited by Sanden Totten and produced by Aron Woldeslassie. Our executive producer is Beth Pearlman and the APM Studios executives in charge are Chandra Kavati and Joanne Griffith. Brains On is a nonprofit Public Radio program. Thanks, Smarty Pass friends, Bye-bye.

ROSE DUPONT: Bye.

RUBY GUTHRIE: Bye.

ANNA WEGGEL: Bye.

MOLLY BLOOM: Poop you later.
